Kert was born in Newark, New Jersey to Kevin and Irene Vandar. His father
was a Lieutenant Colonel who retired, and urged his son to do something else with his life other than join the military.
His mother was a nurse at a naval hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.
He was a bit of a trouble-maker in school,
until he was nearly killed in a fight between gang members in the school while trying to break it up. At this point,
he joined the school's Naval JROTC, and redoubled his efforts, bringing his grades up significantly in his Freshman year.
At the beginning of his Sophomore year, he was placed in the Senior class, at the recommendation of the school guidance counselor.
Upon
his separation from school, he entered the Delayed Entry Program with the United States Navy, and joined after his father
had advised that his date of birth was a year before it actually was. After graduation from basic training at the Great
Lakes, he was assigned to a Special Forces package, and shipped to Kuwait for Operations Desert: Storm. Upon
his return, he completed BUD/S at Little Creek, Virginia Naval Special Warfare Center as a Petty Officer First Class.
Upon
completion of Special Warfare Training, he was placed in Specialized Training, and then deployed to Somalia, as a part of
Operation: Gothic Serpent, assigned to SEAL Team Two, where he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. His specialized
training continued after he was sent back stateside.
He successfuly completed training here, and in a matter
of two years, received a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from New Jersey University with a minor in Military Science.
He was placed in Officer Candidate School, and due to scoring in the top three percent, was promoted to Lieutenant.
Upon
receiving this promotion, Kert was assigned to the 109th Special Operations Group as the Commanding Officer, and assigned
to recruit various special operators in an attempt to suppress terror in Rhydin. His unit upon arrival was met with
hostilities and distrust, treated as if they were mercenaries.
Some time after, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, and sent to take
part in Operation: Provide Comfort and Operation: Desert Strike. While taking part in Operation: Enduring Freedom, he
was promoted to Commander, and sent with a team on a midnight raid.
The operation was a horrible failure,
only three of the eight men that had set out returning. From here, Kert found himself being deployed on Operation: Anaconda.
His
service with the military was running out, but rather than let that happen, he resubmitted his paperwork to be placed on Inactive
Ready Reserves with the United States Navy. Having landed in Rammstein Air Base, one stop away from Cherry Point, North
Carolina on a flight from Kuwait, he was approached by military contractors for a meeting in Prague.
He was curious,
and then was on a flight to Prague. He sat in on the meetings, and then found himself returning to Rhydin on a flight,
with a stop in Beijing. Upon his return, he was placed with the Federal Security Service of Rhydin, and found his residence
untouched by the war.
Many nights he spent working in his office, and looking out over the city, wondering what
he was doing there.
He resigned from the Federal Security Service of Rhydin after receiving an offer from the
State President, Jack Traven. He currently heads up the Tactical and Logistics Studies Group. This group provides
Tactical and Logistical consultations to the Government of the City-State of Rhydin.
After the collapse of the Rhydin
government, Kert found himself alone, without a country, and without anything except his estate and weapons. However,
a chance encounter with an old friend and former co-worker seemed to turn things around. Shortly after their reunion,
Kert was attacked by mercenaries out to collect the bounty placed on his head. Through quick thinking, and connections,
he was able to get himself and Caitlyn Canaus to safety in Britain, staying at the compound of an old comrade and brother
in arms.
Shortly after this move, the mercenaries struck again, attempting to take Kert alive to collect on him.
Kert didn't take this lightly, and realized that his life expectancy was far too short to keep fighting without meaning.
He saw that greater meaning in looking into the eyes of his friend Cait, and asked her to marry him. She accepted his
proposal on 14 September 2008.
On 28 September 2008 Kert and Cait got married at a vineyard outside of a little
village near Venice, Italy.
